The Creator Documentary challenge places students in a fast-paced storytelling sprint, where they spend a day embedded with an early-stage creator to craft a cinematic 3-act short on their journey. Alongside a raw behind-the-scenes vlog, students learn to build emotionally resonant narratives, balance authenticity with structure, and sharpen skills in interviewing, filming, editing, collaboration, and storytelling ethics, gaining a grounded understanding of the creator economy beyond the glamour.

"This Creator Documentary challenge places students in a real-world storytelling sprint where they spend a full day embedded with an early-stage creator, documenting the truth behind the grind. Acting as a small film unit, students craft a cinematic 3-act short that moves from origin to struggle to aspiration, capturing not just what the creator does, but why they persist despite uncertainty, rejection, and trade-offs.
Alongside this, they produce a raw BTS vlog that reveals the chaos behind the camera, team roles, missed shots, creative tension, problem-solving, and reflection. Through research, outreach, filming, editing, and delivery, students learn how to build emotionally resonant narratives, balance structure with authenticity, and translate lived experience into compelling visual stories. The exercise sharpens skills across interviewing, visual composition, sound, collaboration, and storytelling ethics, while offering a grounded understanding of the creator economy, not as glamour, but as sustained effort, belief, and resilience."
